Sometimes cases like Dymond Milburn’s actually surface the violence issues – will be interesting to see if the msm pick up on that story. It speaks volumes for what would apparently have been ok police activity if the girl had been a prostitute…very shocking….
Thank you Melissa. Now that I’m living back on SF I’m re-focusing my energy on local stuff as well. I’m looking forward to working with you and Patricia in 2009 and establishing a true worker-led voice in SF politics. I think as an organization we have to be thinking about how we care for each other just as much as self-care. Every national event I’ve done has left me deflated and feeling isolated. We don’t give our leaders permission to feel vulnerable, to express frustration, trepidation. Dec 17 is so emotional for me, I left the DC march holding a ton of anger and fear with novosi to talk to about it. Ok top of that, didn’t get any support in handling the post-event clean up and logistics that should have been a community responsibility. We have a problematic tendency to leave our powerful
Women feeling powerless and alone. It has to be addresed as a community. Hopefully a new generation of SWOP on SF will be able to address this better than we have historically.
Separately- when I did get to participate and be with other workers on DC on Wed it was always powerful, inspiring and therapeutic. It was amazing to see so many of us here. The Washington Post was fantastic and 50+ red umbrellas make the most beautiful canopy!

Kisses on your forehead back. I love you, friend.
